Fresh air, peace and a lot of silence, interrupted only by the sounds of nature! Thanks to the efforts of the local community to conserve the environment, you can experience all of this during our tour on the Lago Jalapa and in the Tapiria Wildlife Refuge in cooperation with local guides.
Discover Nature by Rowboat and on Feet
The Tapiria Wildlife Refuge and Lago Jalapa are two magical places where you and your family can enjoy a close contact with nature. Both of the attractions are located in the Settlement Rojomaca, 12 kilometers from Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí.
The tour consists in a hike on the recreational trails up to the quay and in crossing the Lake Jalapa by boat in about 2 hours. There you will enjoy a variety of birds as well as the peace and silence of this place. In the last decades, the forest became the home of the Black-throated Trogon and the Chestnut-backed Antbird. Most notably, you have the chance to spot the Honduran White Bat which is one of the most beautiful member of its species. In the end of the boat ride, we will get back to the forest for another 45 minutes to walk to the restaurant, where a delicious typical Costa Rican lunch awaits you, prepared with the products that the members of the community itself harvested in their fields.
